If you’ve been following recent government announcements, you may already be aware of the Green Homes Grant.
Whether you’re familiar with the scheme or not, we’ve put together a guide to keep you informed about the latest developments so you can understand more about the process and find out how it might work for you.
The Green Home’s Grant is the latest government initiative to help homeowners save money and get the most out of their property with energy efficient improvements at a reduced cost to them.
The scheme aims to support homeowners and the construction industry in the UK by offering vouchers of up to £5,000 that will pay, in part, for the cost of the project. Lower-income households can claim vouchers up to a maximum of £10,000 that will cover 100% of the cost.
However, these vouchers apply only to a select few products and services, and while they will improve the energy efficiency of your property, it may not be in the way you expect.
In order to try and clarify the energy efficient services covered in the Green Homes Grant scheme, the government’s guidelines have divided these into primary and secondary categories.
These measures have been prioritised to try and maximise the energy efficiency of your home in the most effective way possible.
But this means homeowners are limited with their options and unable to specify what they would prefer.
The primary home improvements include:
After these, the guidelines outline a series of secondary measures, such as:
The primary measures must be prioritised before you as a homeowner can request funding for secondary measures.
Where primary home improvements are to be installed and there is funding remaining from the vouchers awarded, one or more of these secondary home improvements can be chosen – but no further funding will be available to exceed the initial value of the grant that was first issued.
